Kidnapping Scamming - Scam WireSeveral Maine Police Departments are warning Mainers about a scary new scam.

Police say someone calls saying they have your child. Ellsworth Police say you can hear a child’s scream in the background.

Police say it’s very easy to realize this is a scam if your child is right in front of you. However, it s not easy if your child is at school or a friends house.

Police ask you to not panic if you get this call. Ask questions like “what is our password ” “what is my child’s middle name” etc. They will not be able to answer those questions.

The calls were coming from 52656-322-5469 yesterday but that could change, police warn.
